Summary: | It is well known that the Carthusian Order, despite its relatively small size, is truly international. Indeed one finds, more frequently than not, charterhouses in Europe containing monks of several different nationalities and continents. This ‘intercontinental’ appeal of the Carthusians points to the less well-known fact that the order, with its European heartland, has made some effort to extend its strictly contemplative life to other parts of the globe. This is evident in this volume of the Analecta Cartusiana, which is devoted exclusively to the Carthusians in the Americas. |
