Description
Summary:These volumes consist mainly of photographic reproductions of primary and secondary sources concerning the history of the National Congregation of the Spanish Carthusians, which existed from 1784 until its abolition by Blessed Pope Pius IX in 1867. The creation of a separate Spanish congregation, consisting of 16 charterhouses, is a fascinating episode in the history of the Spanish Carthusians, and is well explained in the general introduction in the first volume, including the general chapters of the congregation. There are no fewer than ten appendices in the same volume, which include the Actas de la Congregacion de las Cartuxas de España (1796) and a necrology of the Spanish congregation.
