Description
Summary:This work consists of a critical edition of the German version of the Passio Christi, a commentary on the Gospel accounts of Christ's passion by Jacobus de Paradiso (1381–1465). Jacobus, known by several appellations, was a noted theologian and canonist who came from humble origins near Jüterbog, in Brandenburg, Germany. In 1401 he entered the Cistercian monastery of Paradies in Poland, and excelled at the University of Kraków, attaining doctorates in theology and philosophy and becoming a professor and preacher at the university. From 1442/43 until 1465 he was a Carthusian at Erfurt and, despite the enclosed nature of the Carthusian vocation, he lectured on theology and canon law at the University of Erfurt, becoming rector in 1456.
