Description
Summary:John Clark’s work of editing ‘opera selecta’ by Dom Augustine Baker, OSB continues with the present contribution. The Five Treatises, short compositions, were written by Baker for the English Benedictine nuns of Cambrai, concerning the practical aspects of the monastic life, covering topics such as ‘against being solicitous of the honour of the house of the order’, ‘concerning the election of worthy and fit counsellors within this house’, and a ‘treatise concerning scandals’. The Life and Death of Dame Gascoigne concerns the premature death of the youngest sister of Dame Catharine Gascoigne, who belonged to a noted English recusant family.
