Summary:The pioneers of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the most part rejected the doctrineof the Trinity during the first decades of the denomination's history. This articletraces and analyzes the major statements in Adventist literature between 1844 and 1900,demonstrating the progressive development of the Trinity doctrine and the reasons for itsinitial rejection and subsequent acceptance. The role of Ellen G. White in this doctrinaldevelopment and some possible explanations for the slow process of acceptance of thedoctrine of the Trinity are also analyzed.
