| Summary: | Addressing the reality of abuse in the Catholic Church requires the inclusion of perspectives and reflections developed outside the ecclesiastical context and which have been already applied to secular situations, in order to put that abuse in a wider context which allows for a better understanding and the proposal of responses which may also be pertinent for the society where the Church dwells. With that methodological aim, this article proposes the victims’ perspective —acknowledging their condition and rights— as the core category for analysis and response, presents a model of restorative justice which ensures a relevant role for the victims and others involved in the abuse situation, considers abuse as a form of unjust violence under Johan Galtung’s triangular model, and offers a justification of the applicability to the Church of categories from organisational ethics. |
