Summary:Canonical criminal proceedings in cases of abuse need to be rethought in order to truly address the needs of both the victim and the perpetrator. The criminal process as we know it protects the institution forgetting the need for truth and justice. It is important to know the mechanisms that Canon Law itself has in order not to neglect people, their dignity; mechanisms and juridical institutes that for the tradition of the Church are means for a reconciling justice and that in today’s juridical world we know as Restorative Justice. We will explore these possibilities.
