Description
Summary:This article explores the Social Gospel movement, considered as the most distinctive contribution of the American Churches to Christianity, and its understanding of the Christian mission. This movement tried to rethink the Church’s mission in the new secular, capitalist and industrial society born in the United Sates at the end of the nineteenth century. Special attention is paid to its roots on Puritanism and its subsequent influences. Finally, this article shows the influence of the Social Gospel on the ecumenical and missionary movement and its contribution to the twentieth century missionary debate.
