| 520 | |a This essay aims at understanding the bourgeois school culture present at Ginásio Catarinense, a secondary school, located in the city of Florianópolis (Southern Brazil), directed by German Jesuit priests and attended by male adolescents during the first half of the twentieth century. On one hand, it analyses the sophisticated knowledge that was taught by this school, defined by the government, but reinterpreted by the Catholic and German vision of the Jesuit clergy. It also focuses on the distinctive capabilities developed by the students who competed for the production of a bourgeois habitus. The article presents a “socio-historical” perspective, empirically supported by testimonials from former students and the many available written documents, especially the annual reports of the school. | ||
