Summary: | This article deals with the question of the rational plausibility of belief in the resurrection of the body. It points out that the idea of a continued existence of the soul after death at first sight seems reasonable, but since the body disintegrates into its physical components, it is difficult to accept the resurrection of the finite body. It outlines the concepts of the soul developed by Plato and Aristotle, and discusses contemporary approaches. Finally it shows that the anthropological basis for belief in the resurrection is that the perfection of the contributions and failings of each person do not come to light completely in their earthly existence but involves a dimension that goes beyond the finiteness of life. |
