| Summary: | This paper analyzes the role of devotional images from their origins in Christianity, the Middle Ages and especially after the Counter-Reformation and the Council of Trent. Aspects such as iconoclasm in the Netherlands, influenced by Protestant areas, as well as iconoclastic areas in the Iberian Peninsula itself during the 16th century, are also touched on. Finally, the role played by the "trampe l'oeil to the divine" is reviewed as reflections of the generally sculptural "real images" and their expansion throughout the kingdoms of the Hispanic monarchy. En este artículo se analiza el papel de las imágenes devocionales desde sus orígenes en el cristianismo, la Edad Media y especialmente después de la Contrarreforma y el Concilio de Trento. Se tocan también aspectos como la iconoclastia en los Países Bajos, influjo de las zonas protestantes, así como los focos iconoclastas en la propia Península Ibérica durante el siglo XVI. Por último, se revisa el papel que jugaron los "trampantojos a lo divino" como reflejos de las "imágenes reales" generalmente escultóricas y su expansión por los reinos de la monarquía hispánica. |
