Summary:This fourth volume of Newman’s unpublished sermons is the penultimate volume of five which make available the 246 sermons preserved in manuscript in the archives of the Birmingham Oratory, which Newman did not include in the Parochial and Plain Sermons and Sermons on Subjects of the Day. Capably edited by Francis McGrath, who has overseen the publication of the final volumes of Newman’s Letters and Diaries, Part I of this volume gathers together twelve sermons on the Church preached over a thirteen-year period from 1824 to 1837.
