| Summary: | The article aims to relocate the question of the Petrine primacy in the historical context of the First Vatican Council in the light of the most up-to-date historiography. After being interested in the movement back to the papacy and its authority that preceded the council and which we call "ultramontanism", it strives to reconstruct the process (preparation, debate, contents) that led to the adoption of the dogmatic constitution Pastor Aeternus (July 18, 1870) on Petrine primacy and papal infallibility, showing, in conclusion, that with it the convocation of a new council seemed to have become "useless". La riforma non mira solo a rinnovare i comportamenti, ma interessa le strutture. Tutte le istituzioni della Chiesa sono provvisorie dinanzi all'orizzonte escatologico, e quindi riformabili. La cosa vale per il primato petrino, sul quale l'enciclica Ut unum sint ha auspicato una "situazione nuova", invitando a distinguere l'essenza dalle forme. L'articolo segue questa sollecitazione, ponendo il tema del papato dinanzi ad alcuni obiettivi riformatori. Dopo aver percorso alcune tappe storiche, e dato punti salienti della dottrina del Vaticano II, traccia un profilo delle principali richieste emerse in questi anni: il servizio dell'amore, comunione e collegialità, il papa come vescovo di Roma. |
