In 1604, King Philip III is in Valladolid, where he has restored the court in 1601and he will maintain it until 1606. With this occasion, the monarch signs an extensive speech in which, by means of the collation of different royal and pontiffs'documents, the arguments are unraveling that confirm his royal sponsorship and that of his father, Philip II, on some monasteries and founding chuches and endowment of the medieval kings, singularly on the abbey of Santa Maria de Royal of Burgohondo, in the province and land of the city of Avila, questioned from the times of the bishop Pedro Fernandez Temiño (1581-1590) and out of the abbot Melchor Perez de Arteaga. By virtue of his being considered king and boss of some monasteries, and in agreement to the dispositions of the different diplomas of the Roman pontiffs who are gathered, Philip III, the Pious, sees his authority legitimized and feels an obligation to the intervene as mediator in these conflicts of ecclesiastic jurisdiction, proceeding on occasion more as guarantor of the rights that some abbots have on the territories of his abbeys. Este artículo pretende explicar la posición de la monarquía española de finales del siglo XVI y principios del XVII como mediadora en los conflictos que enfrentan a diferentes obispos y abades por el pretendido contrl o usurpación de las funciones episcopales en las abadías "nullius". En 1604, el rey Felipe III está en Valladolid, donde ha restablecido la corte en 1601 y la mantendrá hasta 1606. Con esta ocasión, el monarca firma un extenso discurso en el que, mediante la colación de diferentes documentos regios y pontificios, va desgranando los argumentos que confirman su real patrocinio y el de su padre, Felipe II, sobre algunos monasterios e iglesias de fundación y dotación de los reyes del medio-evo, singularmente sobre la abadía de Santa María la Real, de Burgohondo, en la provincia y tierra de la ciudad de Ávila, puesta en duda desde los tiempos del obispo Pedro fernández Temiño (1581-1590) y del abad Melchor Pérez de Arteaga. En virtud de su consideración de rey y de patrón de algunos monasterios, y de acuerdo a las disposiciones de los diferentes diplomas de los romanospontífices que se recogen, Felipe III, el Piadoso ve legitimada su autoridad y se obliga a la intervención como mediador en estos conflictos de jurisdicción eclestástica, procediendo en ocasiones más como garante de los derechos que algunos abades tienen sobre los territorios de sus abadías | ||
