Description
Summary:Since the mid-twen tieth century, the theology of Thomas Aquinas has not been taken into much account in fundamental and dogmatic theologies. During the past two decades, however, a Thomistic renaissance has developed in English-speaking theology. First, this article distinguishes and portrays four different approaches taken by scholars who share this new interest in Thomas Aquinas. Second, a critical review of two recent (2016) handbooks on Aquinas helps us to compare with each other current Thomas scholarship in the English- and German-speaking worlds. The two books are The Cambridge Com panion to the Summa Theologiae, edited by Philip McCosker and Denys Turner, and theThomas Handbuch, edited by Volker Leppin. As a result, what is often an immediate approach to the texts of Aquinas contrasts with an interpretation that has been formed by historical research.
