Summary: | The idea that we humans have of ourselves has changed constantly over time due to the build-up of knowledge provided by the different realms of knowledge, particularly the sciences. While there are those who argue that scientific advances are leading to a breakdown of the Christian anthropological model, this paper advocates that the clashes and discrepancies are not so much between the sciences and Christian theology, but between reductionist philosophical interpretations of scientific data and the core statements of the Christian ideal of the human being. Thus, instead of there being an irreconcilable conflict between science and faith, there is a fruitful dialogue between them, which both purifies and enriches them. |
