Summary: | The article sheds light on the genesis, the content and the potential of the Leuenberg Agreement with regard to the Protestant Free Churches. The processes of rapprochement and the relations of the national and European free church associations to the Leuenberg Agreement are developed exemplarily on the basis of the sources. The added value of the Leuenberg model as unity in reconciled diversity and as differentiated consensus is put in relation to other forms of church fellowship with Free Church participation. The full approval of the gospel understanding of the Leuenberg Agreement by the VEF churches in 2011 is fundamentally explained and remaining points of dissent are identified. |
