Description
Summary:The study retraces tradition of the Altars of the Fatherland dating from the French Revolution and examines the structure of the Rome's Unknown Soldier's Monument - the funeral space where the martyrdom is imagined. On the example of Il Vittoriano the article investigates the idea of open space architecture and direct contact with the Fallen Soldiers tomb. By following the thesis of French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy on the communauté désoeuvrée, the research proposes an interpretation of the Nationalist myth of the lost community. This study puts into the light the links between irresponsible death and the community venerating the fracture of blood relationships (sacrificing a father in war) seen as a mechanism of fraternal incorporation of the State religion.
