| Summary: | L’article se propose d’analyser un terme-clé du langage technique des premiers moines chrétiens. Le but est de faire ressortir un concept fondamental de la doctrine monastique ancienne. Il s’agit du mot grec ἐξουδένωσις, qui normalement indique le mépris, mais qui est traduit par « anéantissement » quand il est utilisé par les auteurs monastiques dans certains contextes. L’analyse des sources montre que ce mot acquiert une signification nouvelle quand il se réfère à un aspect de la praxis ascétique. En assemblant et comparant les passages où apparaît la ἐξουδένωσις, il est possible d’en clarifier le sens et d’approfondir par là notre compréhension de la spiritualité chrétienne The article proposes to analyze a key term of the technical language of the first Christian monks. The goal is to highlight a fundamental concept of ancient monastic doctrine. This is about the Greek word ἐξουδένωσις, which normally indicates contempt but is translated as "annihilation" when used by monastic authors in certain contexts. The analysis of the sources shows that this word acquires a new meaning when it refers to an aspect of ascetic praxis. By assembling and comparing the passages where the ἐξουδένωσις appears, it is possible to clarify its meaning and thereby deepen our understanding of Christian spirituality. |
