However, it has not been studied the scope of his defense of human rights, which is much more limited than what would be expected in a theorist of human rights, because in his work on the law of war he introduces exceptions to the exercise of some rights, like that of personal liberty and private property, that we today would consider unacceptable. In this paper we expose which are the human rights defended by Vitoria, and the scope of such defense, concluding that he only defends one right as absolute: the right to life. | ||

Sin embargo, no se ha estudiado el alcance de su defensa de los derechos humanos, que es mucho más limitada de la que se esperaría en un teórico de los derechos humanos, porque en su obra sobre el derecho de la guerra introduce excepciones al ejercicio de ciertos derechos, como el libertad personal y propiedad, que hoy consideraríamos inaceptables. En este artículo exponemos cuáles son los derechos humanos defendidos por Vitoria, y el alcance de tal defensa, llegando a la conclusión de que solo defiende de modo absoluto el derecho a la vida. | ||
