| Zusammenfassung: | Bioethics is sometimes presented as a series of universal guidelines aimed at regulating health care practices and research on human beings. Such a presentation, however, does not hold water in the face of the history of the discipline. Bioethics was born in the ideological context that prevailed in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. Should we then abandon all hope of universality for ethical benchmarks that have proven their usefulness in illuminating health practices? By carefully distinguishing the universal from the uniform, this contribution shows, based on the work of G. Tangwa, that it is possible to respect the specificities of cultures around the world, while maintaining a universal aim for bioethics. La bioéthique est parfois présentée comme une série de repères universels visant à réguler les pratiques de soin et les recherches sur l'être humain. Une telle présentation ne tient cependant pas la route face à l'histoire de la discipline. La bioéthique est née dans le contexte idéologique particulier qui régnait aux Etats-Unis dans les années 1960-1970. Doit-on alors abandonner tout espoir d'universalité pour des repères éthiques qui ont fait la preuve de leur utilité pour éclairer les pratiques de santé? En distinguant soigneusement l'universel de l'uniforme, cette contribution montre, à partir des travaux de G. Tangwa, qu'il est possible de respecter les spécificités des cultures dans le monde, tout en gardant une visée universelle à la bioéthique. |
