| Summary: | In recent years we have seen an outbreak of so-called New Religious Movements. Starting from this perspective, we sought to study the religious aspect of the Santo Daime in a sub-district of Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais. The objectives were to understand the socio-religious constructions maintained through the relationship between the participants and to analyze symbolic elements built and maintained in the aforementioned religious dimension on the individual, collective and socio-ideological aspects. Thus, this perspective of comprehensive analysis seeks to understand the religious phenomenon as a process of meaning created by different cultures to express symbolic scenarios, constituting, to some extent, society itself. The results show the impressions regarding the perception of the sacred, as well as the individual suitability of each participant to Santo Daime. |
