Summary:This comparative study of Butler and Crummell displays their moral theologies in relationship to race relations. The theological orientation of Butler's ethics is documented. It is then argued that Crummell, a black nineteenth-century Episcopalian moral theologian, places these elements of Butler's ethics in a different theological context which permits them to provide moral leverage for the human liberation of his people.
