| Summary: | En 1640, the Spanish Inquisition in Sicily held a trial for sorcery, only recently discovered, against Nicolò Serpetro (1606-1664), an eclectic writer of his century. His biographical notes appearing in the trial documents reveal several mysterious episodes of his life and allow a reconstruction of his intellectual personality. Thanks to a new interpretation of his works, Serpetro appears as an outstanding expression of a highly refined hermetic and esoteric culture. He had learned the principles of that culture and spread them in his home island, Sicily, within a lively cultural and political climate, as yet only partially investigated in its manifold expressions. En 1640, la Inquisición Española de Sicilia celebró un proceso por superstición, hasta a éste momento algo desconocido, contra Nicolò Serpetro (1606- 1664 ), un polígrafo del siglo XVII. Las informaciones bibliográficas incluidas en el proceso promovido contra él por el santo tribunal han permitido revelar varios oscuros episodios de su vida y reconstruir su perfil intelectual. Nicolò Serpetro se revela (gracias a la nueva interpretación de sus obras determinada por el descubrimiento del proceso celebrado contra él por parte de la Inquisición Española de Sicilia), un exponente importante de una cultura hermética y esotérica extremadamente refinada, cuyos principios aprendió y difundió en su isla natal en el contexto de un complejo clima político y cultural que hasta ahora sólo había sido investigado de modo incompleto en sus numerosas organizaciones. |
