Summary:Fernando Argüelles Miranda, was born in Caboalles de Arriba (León) in 1797. He studied Philosophy and Theology. He became an appreciated parish priest in San Martín de Oscos and San Martín de Taramundi Asturias’ parishes between 1826 and 1851. Thanks to a previous examination, he got Magisterial Canonry in Oviedo accomplishing his tasks attached to his job, developing an enormous social action. Isabel II appointed him Astorga’s Diocese bishop following the advice of the Nuncio and the Queen’s Confessor (1858). He was loyal to the Crown and its governments but intransigent with its ecclesiastic measures. He received constantly support from the Pope and the Nuncio along his ecclesiastical government. He yearned for material, social, spiritual and intellectual welfare of his clergy, monks, nuns and his followers. He took part in the First Vatican Council, but he had to leave it due to his ailments which caused his death (1870).
Fernando Argüelles Miranda, nacido en Caboalles de Arriba (León) (1797) y estudiante de Filosofía y Teología en Oviedo, fue un párroco ejemplar al frente de las parroquias asturianas de San Martín de Oscos y San Martín de Taramundi (1826-1851). Previa oposición fue agraciado con la canonjía Magistral de Oviedo, cumpliendo con las tareas anejas a su oficio y desarrollando una ingente labor social y caritativa. Con el consejo del Nuncio y de su Confesor, Isabel II le nombró Obispo de la Diócesis de Astorga (1858). Como tal fue fiel a la Corona y sus gobiernos, pero intransigente con las medidas antieclesiásticas. En su Magisterio se apoyó constantemente en el Papa y en el Nuncio. Se desvivió por el bienestar material, moral, intelectual y espiritual de su clero, religiosas y fieles. Participó en el Concilio Vaticano I, del cual tuvo que ausentarse debido a sus dolencias, las cuales acarrearon su muerte (1870).
