Summary:This article analyses the fragility of the human being in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic as an expression of a deeper crisis of civilisation that reveals the inequity of the globalised world. It describes the various symptoms of this crisis, ranging from large-scale migration to the climate and governance crisis appearing in various latitudes. In the face of this announced catastrophe, the author suggests compassion as an ethical and spiritual virtue to cope with suffering, together with social justice and political solidarity.
