| Summary: | O presente artigo pretende detalhar qual a política ou políticas seguidas pela Coroa para o Estado da Índia durante os reinados de D. Sebastião e D. Henrique. Entrecruzando os contextos políticos, sociais e militares, do Reino e da Ásia, da nomeação dos vice-reis e governadores da Índia daquele período com a principal correspondência endereçada pela Coroa para o Oriente, torna-se possível responder a algumas questões: Em que medida os reinados dos últimos Avis prosseguiram as tendências herdadas do reinado de D. João III? Existem pontos de contacto nas políticas destes monarcas com as conhecidas para o período filipino? Detalhando as políticas seguidas pela Coroa durante o período das regências na menoridade de D. Sebastião, considerando as alterações que se seguiram com o governo sebástico e considerando ainda a política seguida no efémero reinado de D. Henrique, pretende-se ainda perceber os motivos do conhecido fracasso do reformismo sebástico. This article aims at detailing the policy or policies adopted by the Portuguese Crown for the state of India during the reigns of King Sebastian and King Henry of Portugal. Cross-checking the political, social and military contexts of the kingdom and of Asia, present in the appointment of each one of the governors and viceroys of India during that period with the main correspondence sent by the Crown to the East allows us to answer some questions: to what extent did the reigns of the last Avis kings proceed with the tendencies inherited from the reign of King John III? Can any points of contact be established between the policies of these monarchs and the ones of the philipine period? Focusing on the policies of the regencies during the minority of King Sebastian, taking into account the changes that followed during the period of the government of King Sebastian and considering also the policy of the brief reign of King Henry, we intend to understand the reasons of the well-known failure of the Sebastian reformism. |
