| Summary: | O presente artigo procura explorar o universo complexo das relações entre Igreja e Estado no mundo português de Antigo Regime, em particular no período pombalino. Busca-se observar a trajetória de idéias teológicas e eclesiológicas – notadamente aquelas associadas ao regalismo e ao episcopalismo – que foram ganhando terreno em Portugal e no seu Império para, em seguida, analisar algumas de suas conseqüências para o estabelecimento de um novo padrão na relação entre Igreja e Estado. This article seeks to explore the complex universe of relationships between the Catholic Church and the Portuguese State in the Ancien Régime, particularly during the Pombaline period. It examines the trajectory of certain theological and ecclesiological ideas that were increasingly embraced in Portugal and its empire, with special focus on those associated to regalism and episcopalism, and then attempts to analyse some of their implications as regards the establishment of a new pattern of interaction between the Church and the state. |
