Summary: | A case of interest for the Demonology created in the Hagiography: Saint Germain and his evolution in the Flores Sanctorum published before and after the Council of Trent: Based on De bello demonum, this paper studlies the application of certain hagiographic passages within this particular text, exemplified in the life of Saint Germain. The knowledge of the miracle-working against the demons of Auxerre’s bishop, was due to the popularity of the hagiographic works, such as Legenda aurea. In the Castilian translations of this work, the life of Saint Germain was shared as an important text to learn about the demons and their evil ways to tempt the Christians. Based on these facts, this paper analyses the transformation of the narrative demonological of the life of Saint Germain in the Flores sanctorum published before the Council of Trent (ca. 1480, ca. 1497 and Pedro de la Vega in 1580); and after the Council of Trent (Alonso de Villegas and Pedro de Ribadeneira). The transformation of the demonological discourse in these last cases, with their important shades, are the result of a defensive stance in the context of the Protestant Reformation. A partir del texto De bello demonum, se estudia el uso que ahí se les da a ciertos pasajes de la hagiografía, ejemplificado en el caso de san Germán. El conocimiento de las milagrerías contra los demonios del obispo de Auxerre se debía a la popularidad de los compendios hagiográficos bajomedievales, como la Legenda aurea. En las traducciones y adaptaciones castellanas de esta obra, la vida de este santo fue asumida como una lectura medular para hacer saber de los demonios y sus maldades contra los fieles cristianos. Con base en estos hechos, se analiza la transformación que sufrió la narrativa demonológica de esta vita en los Flores sanctorum pretridentinos impresos (ca. 1480, ca. 1497); el Flos sanctorum de Pedro de la Vega (1580); y en los Flores sanc-torum postridentinos de Alonso de Villegas (1568) y Pedro de Ribadeneira (1599). La transformación del discurso demonológico en estos últimos, con sus importantes matices, es resultado de una postura contestataria y defensiva en el contexto de la Reforma. |
