Description
Summary:Athanasius is a large and complicated subject. Peter Gemeinhardt has assembled a splendid team of specialist writers to outline and introduce the state of scholarship in each field. The authors are chiefly German, but there are contributions translated into German from other languages. The absence of a serious biography of Athanasius is noted, but the Handbuch itself demonstrates the enormity of the task for anyone undertaking it. A review might start at the end, where there are 115 pages of aids to scholarship.
