Description
Summary:Under review is a collection of twelve essays that deal with issues related to the transmission of biblical and early Christian writings from the perspective of manuscript evidence. Although the main title of the collection boldly has ‘New Testament Manuscripts’, this does not mean that these are the sole focus of study. The first essay (E. J. Epp, ‘The Jews and the Jewish Community in Oxyrhynchus’) sketches the contours of Jewish life at Oxyrhynchus as recoverable from preserved documentary papyri in order to reconstruct part of the ‘Socio-Religious Context for the New Testament Papyri’. Despite hardly mentioning New Testament manuscripts, the essay is yet another important step towards contextualizing the Christian texts found in Oxyrhynchus.
