Here, we are offered a chronology of Jerome's career as an appendix, but we do have a great deal of Jerome's own material, and if such crucial questions have to be left unanswered—as, for example, where or why he began to learn Hebrew (his own version is at best unreliably retrospective)—this study presents a number of different insights into the contextualisation and method of Jerome's work. |
