| Summary: | This article focuses on South Asian-Americans in the Diaspora and deals with the Radhasoami movement in transnational space. The focus is on issues pertaining to religion, identity and the "otherness" of South Asian-Americans who adhere to the Radhasoami faith. In the following, I consider several aspects of the globalization of the Radhasoami movement in North America and its complex links with the homeland in South Asia. Some of the questions that I seek to answer are: How do the diasporic conditions transnationalize? Is anything lost or gained in this cultural mobility? Does the new ritual space and practice provide an alternate "modernity" to that shaped by the West? How does this contribute to the building of new structures and spaces of thinking, being and believing? Does the "otherness" of the Radhasoami community lead to isolation and marginalization or does it contribute to the integration in the new home country? Cette contribution se concentre sur l'identité culturelle et la spiritualité dans la tradition du Radhasoami en Amérique du Nord. J'aborde le sujet en discutant l'histoire de la spiritualité du Radhasoami et puis en analysant plusieurs aspects importants de la spiritualité du Radhasoami dans la modernité. Je traite aussi de la question des liens complexes entre la spiritualité du Radhasoami et l'identité culturelle. Par la suite, je considère plusieurs aspects de la mondialisation du mouvement Radhasoami en Amérique du Nord et ses rapports complexes avec la patrie en Asie du Sud. Parmi les questions auxquelles je cherche une réponse sont les suivantes : comment les spiritualités hindoues dans la diaspora se trans-nationalisent-elles ? Est-ce que les nouveaux espaces et pratiques rituels fournissent une « spiritualité moderne » alternative à celle construite par l'Occident ? Est-ce que « l'altérité » spirituelle de la communauté Radhasoami mène à l'isolement et à la marginalisation, ou est-ce qu'il contribue à l'intégration dans le nouveau pays de résidence ? |
