Description
Summary:The author of the article, who has already published other articles on this topic, explains the general legislation of the Church on this delicate and complex theme, which has had and continues to have such importance in the present: he describes the change of attitude of the Catholic Church faced with this criminal behavior on the part of lots clerics and religious, and he analyses the changes made to both the general law of the Church and also the measure recently adopted by some Episcopal Conferences to respond more quickly and effectively to these painful situations. The measures taken by the Church fall into three large areas: prevention, by means of the required selection and formation of candidates, attention to their needs, permanent formation etc.; intervention when crimes happen by means of adequate canonical penal measures; and reparation for the damage caused to the victims of sexual violance and their families, the ecclesial community etc, without forgetting the attention which has to be given to the cleric of religious who has perpetrated these criminal actions
