| Summary: | For centuries the participation of women in the mission of the Church had more or less only found a small sphere of activity. The Second Vatican Council led to a change in this matter by emphasizing the dignity of all Christ's faithful, lay people as well as clerics (LG 32). This caused a notable improvement of the juridical status of lay people – consequently of women too – in the new Code of Canon Law. The following article tries to point out possibilities of women's participation in the Church's mission which are enabled by the new Code, particularly those which are less known. Participation in the mission of the Church is based on the one side on baptism and confirmation and on the other side on a special authorization by the hierarchy. Both forms of participation will be treated here, but special attention will be given to the second one. |
