When discussions of Philo or the Hodayot serve the end of clarifying Paul’s otherwise cryptic treatise on the resurrection, the results have yielded, at times, similarities between Paul and his contemporaries at the cost of evaluating each author’s critical differences. Instead, this article examines the exegesis of three Jewish readers of one text, Gen 2:7, each on his own terms, in an attempt to avoid mapping one interpreter’s exegesis onto another’s. Each of these three Jewish readers appeal to Gen 2:7 for answers related to anthropology and the afterlife. By placing Paul alongside two other Jewish readers of the same text, this article highlights their similarities while also appreciating their differences. | ||

Wenn Diskussionen Philos oder der Hodayot dazu dienen, Paulus’ ansonsten kryptisch bleibende Ausführungen zur Auferstehung zu erhellen, haben die Ergebnisse zwar zuweilen Ähnlichkeiten zwischen Paulus und seinen Zeitgenossen ergeben, allerdings geschieht dies auf Kosten der Auswertung der entscheidenden Differenzen zwischen den Autoren. Stattdessen untersucht dieser Aufsatz die Exegesen dreier jüdischer Leser eines Textes, Gen 2,7, wobei jeder unter seinen eigenen Bedingungen betrachtet wird. Dies dient dem Versuch, zu vermeiden, dass die Exegese des einen auf die Exegese des anderen übertragen wird. Alle drei jüdischen Leser suchen in Gen 2,7 Antworten auf Fragen zur Anthropologie und zum Leben nach dem Tod. Indem Paulus neben zwei andere jüdische Leser des gleichen Textes gestellt wird, werden Ähnlichkeiten aufgezeigt und zugleich die Unterschiede gewürdigt. | ||
