Description
Summary:The essay deals with a well known text of the Italian and European anti- Jewish literature of the sixteenth and seventeenth century. The new vernacular exemplar from the fifteenth century presented here - together with another contemporary one in Latin discovered a few years ago - testify, however, for its broad diffusion well before it was thought to have been composed. The essay attempts a contextualization of the text in the anti-Jewish climate of fifteenth-century Italy and offers a thorough description of the manuscript which contains this vernacular version of the Maledictiones hebreorum. Lastly, the whole text is transcribed at the end of the article.
