Summary:The article examines the question of agency by reconceptualizing the subject as relational, finding a path between domination, and resistance that considers agency itself as the result of various subjects that share a dynamic relationship. Particular focus is given to Marie Guyart, or Marie de l'Incarnation, and her abandonment of her son Claude to enter religious life. References to anthropologist Saba Mahmood's work on women's agency and the work of historian Ben Morgan are included.
