Description
Summary:This article deals with the architectural and artistic fruits promoted by the agrarian colonization policies in Spain and Portugal between the 1930s and 1970s. Despite the great differences found between the two Iberian countries, we focus on a limited selection of the two Portuguese cases with plastic works, their relationship with homonymous cases of fresco painting of sacred iconography in Spain, the adaptation of religious architectural typologies to the geographical environment and the significance of art as a conciliatory, moralizing and harmonious balm in the rural societies of Montijo (Setúbal) and Cilanco (Albacete). In this way, it also aims to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of the INC and JCI staff with the collaboration of the artists Manuel Rivera Hernández, Artur Mendes de Sousa Bual and Severo Portela Júnior.
