| Summary: | Aristotle is the most quoted author in Aquinas’ Commentary on Peter Lombard’s Sentences. But what are we make of this information with regards to Aquinas’ knowledge of the Aristotelian works? The examination of the quotations which are taken from Aristotle’s Metaphysics in the Commentary on Book I of the Sentences provides an analysis of the way in which Aquinas reads, understands and makes use of Aristotle at the beginning of his career. By drawing the attention to the historical and methodological questions that such a topic gives rise to, some significant examples are brought forward in order to show that the young Aquinas is already very well acquainted with Aristotle’s Metaphysics. RésuméL’autorité la plus citée par Thomas d’Aquin dans son Commentaire des Sentences de Pierre Lombard est celle d’Aristote. Mais que tirer de cette observation quant à la connaissance que Thomas aurait eue de la doctrine et des écrits du Philosophe? En considérant le cas des citations de la Métaphysique dans le Commentaire du Ier livre, on engage une réflexion sur la façon dont Thomas lit, interprète et utilise Aristote au début de sa carrière. À partir d’une analyse des questions historiques et méthodologiques soulevées par ce sujet, une série d’exemples significatifs est prise en considération. On montre ainsi que le jeune Thomas maîtrise déjà fort bien la Métaphysique d’Aristote. |
