| Summary: | The biblical laws on the impurity of genital discharges contain a number of discrepancies. While these rules were read "systemically" at the end of the Second Temple period, the discrepancies suggest various explanations: a systematic shaping of the biblical text, limitations on female involvement in the cult, an understanding of genital fluids as ultimate sources of impurity, or vestiges of demon belief. Although no one explanation covers all discrepancies, all four may contribute with partial solutions to the problem. This betrays a long history of development and merging of diverse practices, reminding us among other things of the fact that impurity was more than an issue relating to the temple cult, and that diverse interpretations at a later time were not necessarily innovations, but could at times have ancient roots. Les lois vétérotestamentaires sur l'impureté due aux écoulements génitaux manifestent quelques désaccords. Ces derniers suggèrent différentes explications : une reprise systématique du texte biblique, les limitations mises à la présence féminine dans le culte, une compréhension des fluides génitaux comme ultime source de l'impureté, ou bien des vestiges de croyances au démon. Bien qu'aucune de ces raisons n'explique à elle seule les anomalies dans la réglementation, les quatre peuvent apporter des solutions partielles au problème. Cela traduit une longue histoire du développement et de la fusion des différentes pratiques, nous rappelant, entre autres, que l'impureté était plus qu'un thème touchant au culte dans le temple, et que diverses interprétations d'époque tardive, ayant parfois des racines anciennes, n'étaient pas forcément des innovations. |
