| Summary: | The article describes the vision of the Old Testament books with regard to emigrants. Firstly, the Old Testament bears witness to the consciousness of the people of Israel that their ancestors were emigrants and that the people of Israel themselves were emigrants not only in Egypt but also in the land of Canaan. In reference to those living as emigrants or refugees in Israel, the key idea is that Israelis should refrain from oppressing them. Orphans and widows shall be provided for on a regular basis. And two reasons are adduced: Israelis should not oppress emigrants because they too were in the same predicament in Egypt and because God is the avenger of emigrants. Lastly, the texts favor the integration of emigrants into the congregation of Israel so long as they freely embrace the Israelite faith. El artículo describe la visión que los textos del A.T. tienen sobre los emigrantes. En primer lugar, el A.T. atestigua la conciencia del pueblo de Israel de que sus antepasados eran emigrantes y de que el propio pueblo de Israel fue emigrante no solo en Egipto sino también en la tierra de Canaán. Respecto a los que habitan como emigrantes o refugiados en Israel, la idea principal es que los israelitas han de evitar oprimirlos. Se les equipara frecuentemente a los huérfanos y a las viudas. Y las razones que se aducen son dos: los israelitas no han de oprimir a los emigrantes porque ellos también lo fueron en Egipto y porque Dios es vengador de los emigrantes. Finalmente, los textos están por la integración de los emigrantes en la asamblea de Israel, si ellos aceptan libremente incorporarse a la religión israelita. |
