Description
Summary:This paper introduces the entities of the Order of Friars Minor created in Portugal during the Modern Age, in the Kingdom and overseas: 12 provinces, 6 custo-dies, 5 seminaries of apostolic missionaries, 3 commissariats and 1 mission. It also indicates the number of friars and the location of the friaries of these entities in 1739 according to data collected by Fr. Apolinário da Conceição. Furthermore, the paper transcribes a manuscript of 1680/1682, revealed by the Author in 1997, containing a list of friars and friaries of the provinces of the Kingdom, discriminated by categories: clerics, lay brothers, preachers or lecturers and novitiates, colleges, or infirmaries.
