Description
Summary:A community-based study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of relational virtues as the curricular focus of a peer-led marital intervention within a Christian church. The curriculum addressed pain and defense patterns of within marital relationships, with relational virtues such as grace as mechanisms for change. A one-day marital education event (N = 158) with a one-month follow-up evaluation (N = 53) showed moderate improvement in both relational spirituality and relationship satisfaction. Outcomes provide support for the application of relational virtues to everyday marital problems in religious accommodative marital interventions. Embedding the curriculum within existing religious community marital education offers promise for a low-cost, accessible, community-level intervention for normal to moderate marital dysfunction.
