Le Strasbourgeois Jacques Timothée Dürr en a été le premier pasteur. Pendant un ministère algérien de 32 ans, il a déployé une activité extraordinaire et un zèle apostolique remarquable, parcourant toute l’Algérie, fondant des communautés, créant des bibliothèques, des écoles, un orphelinat. Il a fortement contribué à l’édification et au développement de l’Église protestante unie d’Algérie. Doyen des pasteurs d’Algérie, toujours en activité, il meurt à 80 ans et a été surnommé «l’Apôtre de l’Algérie». From the time Algiers was captured in 1830, Protestants settled there and founded a Reformed community. Established as a consistory in 1839 by King Louis-Philippe, the community became biconfessional following the establishment of a Lutheran oratory in Dely-Ibrahim. Its first pastor was Jacques Timothée Dürr, from the city of Strasbourg. During the 32 years of his ministry in North Africa, he was extraordinarily active and displayed a remarkable apostolical zeal, travelling throughout the entire country, founding communities, and setting up libraries, schools, and an orphanage. He contributed significantly to the establishment and development of the United Protestant Church in Algeria. Foremost among Algeria’s pastors, he worked tirelessly and became known as “the apostle of Algeria” upon his death at the age of 80. Seit der Eroberung von Algier im Jahr 1830 haben sich dort Protestanten niedergelassen und eine reformierte Gemeinde gegründet. Louis-Philippe hat 1839 diese Gemeinde als Konsistorium errichtet, 1842 wurde sie mit der Einrichtung einer Kapelle des Augsburger Bekenntnisses in Dély-Ibrahim gemischt-konfessionell. Der Straßburger Jacques Timothée Dürr war dort der erste Pfarrer. In seiner insgesamt 32 Jahre dauernden Amtszeit in Algerien entfaltete er ein außergewöhnliche Aktivität in einem bemerkenswerten apostolischen Eifer, der ihn durch ganz Algerien führte, wo er Gemeinden gründete, Bibliotheken Schulen und ein Waisenhaus aufbaute. Er hat stark zur Erbauung und zur Entwicklung der Unierten (Protestantischen) Kirche in Algerien beigetragen. Er starb im Alter von 80 Jahren, wo er immer noch als Dekan der algerischen Pfarrer aktiv war und wurde „Apostel Algeriens“ genannt. |
