Summary: | This is the second collection of papers from the Carthusian studies conference held at Aggsbach and Brünn in 2005. The conference placed special emphasis on the charterhouses of central Europe, and this particular volume largely consists of photographs and illustrations. Josef Šamánek provides an account of the remarkable rebuilding of the historic sixteenth-century wooden church of St Katharine in Ostrava-Hrabová in the Czech republic, which was destroyed in a terrible fire in 2002. Jakub Vrána discusses the layout of the charterhouse ‘Domus Vallis Josaphat’, at Dolany near Olomouc, uncovered sometime ago during archaeological excavations. The charterhouse had been relocated from Tržek in 1389, as the original foundation was too distant to administer its possessions effectively. |
