Description
Summary:Current theological and canonical new forms of consecrated life The possibility of approving new forms of consecrated life is contemplated in canon 605 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law. Nevertheless, the debate held in the aftermath of the promulgation and implementation of the New Code is centered on wheter there really exist ways of living the consecrated life according to canon 573 that are actually a novelty with respect to the ones already in existence, or whether these are simply different and new variations of the traditional forms of Consecrated Life. This article contains a synthesis of this question as a prologue to the work realised by the Seminar on the New Forms of Consecrated Life, promoted by the Episcopal Commission for Consecrated Life of the Spanish Episcopal Conference. The conclusionsof the acts of the Seminar are published in the book "Multiforme armonía. Actualidad teológico-canónica de las Nuevas Formas de Vida Consagrada" ("Multiform harmony. Theological and canonical updates on the New Forms of Consecrated Life"). In the second part of the article a summary of each chapter is offered so as to show the actual novelty that these new foundations offer for consecrated life. Finally, a reflection is given on the processes of the ecclesial discernment that are needed for the approval of New Forms of Consecrated Life, as well as the role that canon lawyers play in this process
