Description
Summary:Blending memoir and scholarship, I recall experiences surrounding production and publication of my earlier article “The We-Passages in Acts and Ancient Sea Voyages” (BR20 [1975]: 5–18). After initial positive reactions to the essay, a series of negative reactions emerged in the midst of positive contributions that built on the insight that the we-passages are sea voyages. The final part of the essay presents my recent scholarship on the we-passages, which follows the point of view of the author as a sea-voyager in the Aegean region. I hypothesize that this voyager and his group were engaged in buying and selling textiles related to the tentmaking of Paul. Their trading network expanded when Paul joined the journaler and his group as they took the Macedonian collection to James in Jerusalem. When they sailed with Paul to Rome, they probably joined the trading network associated with the tentmaking of Prisca and Aquila.
