Summary: | The reform is not a generic change of behaviour, but it touches the official structures. All Church institutions are provisional in front of its eschatological horizon, and therefore can be incorporated into the reform. The same naturally applies for the Petrine primacy on which the encyclical Ut unum sint called for "a new situation", distinguishing between essence and forms. The article follows this suggestion, placing the theme of the theme of the papacy in front of its reform. After having traversed some historical stages, and giving salient points of the doctrine of Vatican II, it outlines a profile of the Petrine ministry in relation to some requests that have emerged in recent years: the service of love, communion and collegiality, the pope as Bishop of Rome.
