Vorliegender Forschungsüberblick führt in zentrale Argumentationsstrukturen der Diskussion ein. Die ethische Problemexposition rund um medizinische Entscheidungen am Lebensende situiert das Thema im Spannungsfeld von Autonomie und Fürsorge und benennt zentrale Konfliktfelder. Besondere Beachtung findet dabei nicht nur die Situation in den Niederlanden, Belgien und der Schweiz, sondern vor allem die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen palliativmedizinischer Betreuung Schwerstkranker und Sterbender. Mit Nachdruck wird für eine verbesserte Ausbildung des ärztlichen und pflegerischen Personals in den ethischen und existentiellen Fragen, die das selbstbestimmte Sterben betreffen, plädiert. The debate about self-determination and dying is not abating, but continuing with undampened intensity. This research overview introduces the central points of the debate. The ethical exposition of the problem around medical decisions at the end of life places the subject within the tension between autonomy and care and points out the central areas of conflict. Not only the situation in the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland is of special interest, but also the possibilities and limits of palliative medical care of the seriously ill and dying. The author forcefully calls for a better education of medical and paramedical staff with respect to moral and existential questions that arise in the context of self-determination and dying. |
